Who We Are in Christ

Obviously, none of us have been without temptation since we were saved. As a matter of fact we are exhorted by Paul the Apostle to flee from temptation and to avoid circumstances of temptation when ever possible.
Again, we certainly cannot say that we have been "untouched by the effects of sin" since we were saved or born again. If we could say we were untouched by sin, John would not have written 1 John 1:8,9, and 10.
Romans 6:14 says that "sin no longer has authority over us for we are no longer under Law but we are under grace."
Romans 6:18 says that "having been freed from sin we have become slaves to righteousness.
2 Corinthians 5:21 tells us that God, "made Him (Jesus) Who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (Jesus). When we are truly born again, God covers us with His righteousness so that He no longer looks at our weaknesses and shortcomings but when He looks at us He sees His righteousness. That is why He is able to exhort us to come boldly before His throne. We will never be perfectly sanctified in our outward daily lives, although we will become more and more like Jesus (Romans 8:29) if we absorb the Word of God into our being and allow the Holy Spirit to interpret its meaning to us and make it a part of us, therefore we could never enter into heaven in our own righteousness, which God says is as filthy rags. No sin is allowed to enter into heaven, therefore the only way we could possibly enter into eternal life with Jesus is if we enter on the basis of His righteousness rather that our own.
When one is born again the old person, who you were, is immersed into Christ and therefore immersed into His death (Romans 6:3). The person you are after you are born again is not the same person you were before (2 Corinthians 5:17). Your old spirit was "dead in trespasses and sin" and therefore immersed into Christ's death. The old person is forever dead. Now you are raised up a new person because a newly begotten spirit from God is put in your old body and soul (mind). Your mind is not new and your body is not new. However, as you immerse yourself into the Word of God trusting the Holy Spirit to give you understanding and to change your life by the Word of God (John 17:17 and Ephesians 5:26) your mind will be transformed. The old way of thinking which you learned from your worldly life will gradually be displaced with Christ's way of thinking (Romans 12:2). Your body will also begin to change and to find Godliness during this time as well. This is a lifetime process. You were made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus spiritually when you were born again and you are being made in the image of Christ or Christ is being formed in you so that your outward life will become more and more like Christ. Therefore you, being the light of the world (Matthew 5:14, 15), are becoming a brighter and brighter and purer light day by day. All of the time this process is going on from the time you were first truly born again to the day of your physical death or the rapture of the Church, whichever takes place first, your are clothed in the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. God will continue to see you as who you are in Him and not as who you are in your self. However, 1 John 1:9 and 2:1,2 were given to the Christian so that he can keep his life cleansed of sin and continue to walk in the Love, peace and joy of God.

Note: For the purpose of clarity I should define my usage of the world soul. In most of the English translations you will see the word "soul" used interchangeably for mind in some cases and for spirit in other cases. I have, however, used the word soul purely as representative of the mind, and I use spirit where spirit is implied. In other words: body, soul, and spirit.
